Ingredients

Dough

  • 3 cups all-purpose flour (plus more for dusting)
  • 2 ¼ tsp active dry yeast (1 packet)
  • ¼ cup sugar granulated
  • ¾ cup milk warm, (about 110°F)
  • ¼ cup unsalted butter melted
  • 1 large egg
  • ½ tsp salt

Filling

  • 3 tbsp unsalted butter , softened
  • cup brown sugar , packed
  • 2 tsp cinnamon ground

Egg Wash

  • 1 egg yolk
  • 1 tbsp milk

Optional Toppings

  • Powdered sugar for dusting
  • Icing drizzle (powdered sugar + milk)

Instructions

  • In a small bowl, combine warm milk, sugar, and yeast. Let it sit for 5–10 minutes until foamy.In a large bowl, mix the flour and salt. Add melted butter, egg, and the yeast mixture. Stir until a soft dough forms.Knead for 8–10 minutes (by hand or mixer) until smooth and elastic. Place in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise for 1 hour, or until doubled in size.
  • In a small bowl, mix softened butter, brown sugar, and cinnamon until smooth. Set aside.
  • Punch down the dough and divide it into four equal pieces.
  • Roll one piece into a 10-inch circle and place it on parchment paper. Spread with filling.
  • Repeat for the next two layers, stacking them and spreading filling between each. Top with the last circle (no filling).
  • Place a small glass in the center. Cut into 16 strips like pizza slices.
  • Twist two strips away from each other twice, then pinch the ends together to form a point. Repeat all the way around.
  • Cover the shaped bread and let it rise again for 20–30 minutes.
  • Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Brush with egg wash and bake for 20–25 minutes, or until golden brown.
  • Let the bread cool slightly before dusting with powdered sugar or drizzling with icing. Tear, share, and enjoy!
