Homemade Apple Juice

This fresh, homemade apple juice recipe is quick, simple, and so much better than store-bought juice! Perfect to make during apple season!

Ingredients

  • 5 cups of apples
  • 2 tsp of cream of tartar
  • 10 cups boiling water
  • 1/2 cup sugar as desired
  • 2 tbsp lemon juice

Instructions

  • Wash the apples and cut into 1″ pieces.

  • Add the apple pieces into a pot with boiling water.
  • Mix in Cream of Tartar.

  • Cover the pot and turn down the heat!
  • Simmer the apples for 15 minutes.
  • Let it sit and cool for 24 hrs.
  • Strain the liquid into a jar, then press down on the apple pulp to extract as much juice as possible.

  • Add sugar and lemon juice.
  • You can seal your juice at this point by simply adding a sterile lid to canning the jar or go on to the next step if you don't wish to have it canned.
  • Put the jug in the fridge and allow the juice to settle.
  • The juice will separate with some sludge on the bottom and a dark rich juice at the top of the jar. Pour the juice into another jar and discard the sludge.

  • Chill until you use it! Enjoy!

Notes

Use the leftover pulp and apples to make a delicious apple sauce by adding cinnamon and maple syrup.
Try different types of apples to produce different flavours of apple juice.
Use this same recipe with other seasonal fruits to make different types of fruit juices!
