Simple spring decorating ideas are one of my favorite ways to welcome a new season into our home. After a long winter, I always find myself craving lighter colors, fresh flowers, and small changes that make the whole house feel brighter again.

Spring has a way of bringing fresh energy with it. The days get longer, sunlight starts pouring through the windows again, and suddenly everything feels ready for a little reset.

The good news is that decorating for spring doesn’t require a full renovation or buying all new decor. Most of the time, simple spring decorating ideas are really about small seasonal shifts that make your home feel fresh again.

In our home, these changes usually begin with decluttering, bringing in flowers, swapping out heavier winter textures, and adding a few touches of nature indoors. Over the years, I’ve noticed that a handful of simple changes can completely transform how a home feels.

Whether you want to make subtle changes or do a full-on renovation (like me), there are plenty of ways to update your home for spring. If you’re looking to transform the look of your home this season, here are some of my favorite simple spring decorating ideas that always work.

Start With a Spring Declutter

One of the most overlooked simple spring decorating ideas actually has nothing to do with buying anything new.

It starts with clearing space.

After getting through the difficult winter blues and taking down the winter décor, most people usually feel ready to change things up or do an update for spring! Thick blankets, darker colors, and extra layers of decor tend to build up during the colder months.

Clear The Space

One of the easiest ways to welcome spring is to pack away anything that feels too heavy for the new season. Try bringing in the new season by decorating with light colors, airy fabrics, and natural materials like wood or jute to give your home a refreshing spring look.

I always begin by removing winter decorations like chunky knit blankets, darker textiles, and anything in deep reds or charcoal tones. Once those items are packed away, the entire house immediately feels lighter. You can also

  • Give windows a deep scrubbing to let in more natural light
  • Replace heavy curtains with sheer ones.
  • Give a room a fresh coat of paint. For tips on choosing a colour, use my paint color selection guide.

Declutter For Spring

Spring is also the perfect time to declutter areas that slowly fill up over winter. Closets, kitchen counters, and storage baskets are great places to start.

Spring cleaning and decluttering can help you create a fresh and organized look for your home. Follow these simple spring cleaning tips and then grab my printable spring cleaning checklist to use this year too!

  1. First thing, start by examining the clutter in each room of your home and determine what items can be donated, thrown away, or recycled. If certain furniture pieces are taking up too much space, consider rearranging them or replacing them with something more suitable.
  2. Once everything is cleared out, it’s time to deep clean and disinfect the surfaces in every room. Dusting furniture and wiping down appliances will help make everything look bright and shiny again.

If you want a deeper reset, I often recommend starting with spaces that tend to collect the most clutter. My guides on organizing and decluttering your kitchen, how to declutter and simplify your home, and small space organization ideas are great places to begin.

If you are doing a deeper seasonal reset, I also like to revisit spaces like the linen closet. My tips for linen closet organization are something I return to every spring when I want everything to feel fresh and orderly again.

For many of us, the best simple spring decorating ideas actually start with removing things before adding anything new.

2. Rearrange The Furniture

Another one of my favorite simple spring decorating ideas is something that costs absolutely nothing.

Move the furniture.

It may sound simple, but rearranging a room can make it feel completely new again. Every spring I find myself pulling chairs closer to the windows to take advantage of the longer days and the beautiful natural light that starts pouring back into the house.

Sometimes I go a step further and clear the entire room so I can start fresh with the layout. It’s amazing how different a space can feel just by shifting things around.

Steps To Refresh The Furniture

When I do this, I like to:

  1. Start by removing all of the furniture from the room.
  2. Measure the room and draw out a floor plan on paper, including where you want each piece of furniture to go.
  3. Move the furniture around until you’re happy with the layout, then take measurements again to make sure everything fits.
  4. Tape down painter’s tape to mark off each section of the room, then start painting or re-painting walls as needed.
  5. Replace any light fixtures or add new ones for a fresh look.
  6. Move back in your furniture and enjoy your new layout!

Spring is also a great time to take a closer look at older pieces that might need a refresh. A coat of paint can completely transform something tired into a beautiful focal point. If you’ve never tried it before, my guide on painting furniture walks through the process step by step.

And if you prefer the look of natural wood, I also share how to bring older pieces back to life in refinishing furniture to a wood finish.

Sometimes the simplest shifts make the biggest difference. Rearranging a room or refreshing a favorite piece is one of those simple spring decorating ideas that always surprises me with how much it can change the feel of a space.

3. Decorate With Fresh Spring Flowers

Flowers might be the most joyful of all simple spring decorating ideas.

If you’ve followed along with my home for a while, you probably know that flowers are almost always somewhere in the house. They instantly bring life and color into a space.

A few easy ways to decorate with flowers include:

• An antique vase of tulips on the kitchen table
• Small apothacary jars of blooms on bedside tables
• A simple spring arrangement on the coffee table

You can also choose flowers that smell good, so your home will always smell fresh or try using artificial flowers instead of fresh ones to avoid having to water them.

4. Decorating With Spring Artwork

Adding artwork or photos to your walls is a great way to bring a room to life and can add character to your home. For wall art, look for framed prints featuring delicate florals or calming scenes of nature that will give your home a restful ambiance. With just a few small changes, you can easily refresh any room for the spring season and just make your home feel happier.

Before buying artwork or frames for your wall, consider the size and shape of the piece as well as the color palette of your room. You also want to make sure it’s hung at eye level for maximum impact. If you have multiple pieces that you want to hang together, plan ahead by measuring out where each piece will go before beginning installation.

You may even want to use painter’s tape on the wall first so you can visualize how everything looks together before committing it all with nails or picture hangers. Creating a gallery wall in your home is a great way to show off your style and personality.

I love to scour second-hand stores and antique shops for hand-painted, one-of-a-kind pieces. Usually, you can find something seasonal for a great price. I have collected so many original paintings that I change them out for each season! Reference my guide on shopping and decorating with vintage and antiques for even more details and tips.

5. Spring Throw Pillows and Blankets

Consider switching out your throw blankets and pillow covers for something more seasonal. If you prefer something more traditional, look for a classic like linen that will last year after year.

Pillows come in a variety of shapes, sizes, and textures that can help make the space more inviting. Choose from ticking stripes to bright patterns, and even washed linen for added texture.

Throw blankets are also great for snuggling up on the couch or layering onto the bed, even in the springtime. Just opt for a lighter, airier fabric like linen or organic cotton.

I love sleeping in linen for so many reasons! It is temperature-regulating, so it’s perfect for any time of the year. Learn more about the benefits of linen. You can also shop some of my favorite linen items in the B Vintage Style Shop and the Garden Market.
